Acupuncture is also an effective form of preventative medicine. It can give symptomatic relief and improve health and well-being.

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which originated in China over 3000 years ago. this art of healing has shown itself to be remarkably effective and safe form of therapy.

The aim is to increase the body's capacity to cope with stress, and promote a healthy body.

HOW DOES IT WORK

acupunctureThe human body can be perceived as a highly complex electrical circuit. Like any electrical circuit, it must be kept in good working order if it is to function properly. If the human circuit breaks down the result is illness.

Each person has an energy circulation. To maintain good health, it is essential for the body's energy as well as blood, to circulate in a continuous and unobstructed manner. The pathways through which the energy flows are called meridians and these circulate through the organs and tissues of the body.

The energy which flows along the meridians is called "Chi" (pronounced "Chee"). By stimulating the points which lie on these meridians, will balance the body's energy to promote a healthy state.
In summary acupuncture works by addressing the identified illness as a process of energetic disharmony - which acupuncture therapy can help reestablish by activating specific points.

Other techniques may be applied as part of an acupuncture treatment, such as...

Electro-Acupuncture: stimulates the flow of Chi by connecting a pair of needles to a small electrical charge from an electro-acupuncture stimulator.

Moxibustion: is a treatment approach which involves the burning of dried mugwort (a Chinese herb stick). The moxa stick hovers around the inserted needle or around an acupuncture point to warm the the body and promote circulation.

Auricular Acupuncturee: involved the needling of points in the ear that correspond to different parts of the body.

Cupping: is a technique that involves the use of robust glass cups which creates a vacuum to draw the skin up beneath the cup. The effect of this is to encourage circulation of blood in the area beneath the cup. ?This technique may cause bruising of the skin.
